Lara is regularly involved in outreach activities as a STEM ambassador.  This has involved  volunteering in local schools,  at events such as ‘Females in Stem Related Professions’ where 13/14 year old girls had to ask questions to guess job roles, after which we would reveal our current job role, the pathway taken and also highlight the good points of the profession.

Big Bang North West is the region’s largest celebration of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).  It is aimed at school children aged 11-16. Lara volunteered at the Institute of Physics stand and demonstrated fun physics experiments that could be performed with household items.  The school children were also interested in ‘what a physicist did’ and how to ‘become a scientist’ and so a large portion of the day involved talking about the various different jobs based on physics and the possible routes to get to specific careers.
